Post So The Battery In The Trans Am Died
Right on schedule. Its the 3rd Duralast Ive had and all 3 failed at about the 3 1/2 year mark. Not complaining as thats about average and if I drove the car more maybe they would last longer. I did get a trickle charger so that may change things but I feel the heat in the garage is what does them in.

Had to get a battery quick so I decided to try something new. Best deal was on an AutoCraft Gold. It was either that or a NAPA Legend. Anybody have any experience with the AutoCraft? or the Napa for that matter. Reviews of both batteries leaned different ways. Was going to go with the Napa till I found a $40 off coupon for the AutoCraft.

No big deal I guess. Most batteries are all the same and the warranty is good on the AC.

How boring is my life these days?

the Delco on our Yukon/denali is approaching 3-4 yrs old. I expect it to crash anyday...the truck sat in the garage unused so long that the battery died. I had to charge it up :)

Hm. I just checked my records. My previous Duralast in the Escape made it... 3.33 years. (Jan 2010 to May 2013)

You're on to something Max.

I made the switch to a LiFePo battery in the bike and I'm never looking back!

Now they just need to start making them for cars. I don't think it will be long.

Interesting, Ny. Ill have to look those up.

I installed the new battery around noon and took it for a test drive. The T/A is running as smooth as silk.

Strange, the battery was out of the car for several hours but I didnt have to reset the anti theft radio codes and the clock was only off by 4 minutes!!! Guess the clock could just have been a random thing but the radio always needed the codes when the battery was disconnected. Maybe it is a time disconnected thing OR Ghost battery alert!!!!! :teehee: Wonder if I have to retrain the computer chip as to my driving habits again or if that memory is retained. It did seem to be running a lot smoother and dont think that is due to the new battery.

Dammit, my car deserves an Optima Red Top. Auto Crap is typical GNB BS, junk. I despise Advance Auto Parts. 12 years out of my Optimas, worth every dime IMO.

Thank you for the vote of confidence in my choice. :green: Would you have liked the NAPA any better? Should I have gotten another Duralast?

I generally agree on Advance APs but they do have some good sales. Only a mile from the house so thats a plus at times. I think the battery is the biggest purchase dollar wise Ive ever made from them at one time though. Where do you like to shop (as if I didnt know)?

Probably going to sell the car SOON so investing in a red top was out of the question. Ive heard some not so good reports on them also but I take all reports, pro and con, with a dash of salt. I do want to try one.

You can only sell that car to me. Until then, I can know it is in the best of of hands. I do not need it, but I WANT it. I will take it whenever you say go. Back on topic for a minute, Any battery that lasts 10+ years in a rarely driven car always says Optima. Despite the fact that they are roughly double the price of a shitty battery from any parts house (Summit Racing is my choice, BTW) they adhere well to the intended useage of our cars.

I don't think it will be long before we start to see less lead acid batteries. The benefits of LiFePo4 are just too numerous (except for price currently).

This is what I just put in the bike:

Image

It weighs less than a pound, it puts out far more cranking amps than a regular battery, and you can drain it completely without hurting it. The best part is that I can use my standard charging dovetail and Battery Tender, and it can go from null charge to full charge in 7 minutes flat. So far though, the battery has done nothing but make the bike jump to life no matter how long I let it sit. With the old style batteries I always had to have my bikes plugged into AC power when they sat.

Let me go ahead and retract my statement about Optimas. They have gone to shit. I have 3 less than 3 years old, completely dead. Trickle charged, etc. Garbage. My first batch were awesome, these new ones are no better than Walmart Neverstart. Avoid these bastards.
