Don't get HBO but keep hearing about the series.

I'd like to read the books, for sure.

I've been a huge fan of the books for many years, so this show made me subscribe to HBO.

The show is excellent but the books are even better. You're in for a treat, Max.

Dont remember the last time Ive been so taken with anything. Not really a fan of Medieval times but this alternate world sucked me right in.

GRR Martin has topped Tolkien and Herbert in my opinion and is a better writer to boot. I hope he lives long enough to finish the 7 books but even so, taken as a slice of life literary form it can end anywhere. Got the first 4 books in a set from Amazon for only $20. Kindle version was $35. Much as I like the kindle I still like paper.

Im pacing the first book with the series but am going to go whole hog (or boar) in 2 weeks.

Mark Addy was a fabulous Robert BTW. The Imp should get an Emmy or whatever they get on TV.
Sean Bean is always good. Cercei, meh.

I was very pleased with Syrio's depiction in the show as well.

The story is very engaging and I agree about GRRM, he's right up there with the fantasy greats after this series.

Syrio was great but I couldnt help thinking of this every time he was on screen.
"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die"

Actor volunteered to shave his head but the Director decided he liked him better with curls.

Gilbert Rowland would have made a great Syrio in the same vein. Remember him?

Don't watch this if you haven't seen last night's episode yet. I wondered how people who haven't read the books were going to react when this part came up in the series. I guess this is one answer!

Ha Haw!!
You know those geniuses never read the books. Can they read? Were they speaking Dothrakian?
I wonder what they think of all the nuances or if they even recognize them. If they had read they would have known all the battle scenes were cut and then they REALLY would have been pissed!! :green:

The best part is that all of the people who are shocked and saying "How could they do that, it will hurt the ratings!" are all going to be blown away by the last scene of the final episode. I have a feeling the attitude is going to change quickly to:

"Okay nevermind about that other stuff. When does season 2 start?!"

It's the last scene in the first book, and it's the ONLY way to end the season. In fact, Max, if you're pacing the book with the shows I think you should see the show first.

Gonna do it that way. I think you can enjoy the HBO version more if you havent read the books first.

Ill be able to tell you better after next season because there is no way Im going to wait to read the rest of the books available.

Heh, that's a good way to put it. And the biggest "holy fuck" in this first book has still yet to happen. There is pretty much only one thing that can trump the "holy fuck" factor of what happened in episode 9, and you might not see it coming until it's just about to happen.

It would be cool if you devoured the books like I have, Max. I'd like to share my theories about what happened at the Tower of Joy between Rhaegar, Ned, Lyanna Stark, and Howland Reed. I've got a theory that ties all of the mysteries together and sets the stage for some awesome future revelations.

Plan to do my best. In the old days I would have been through all 4 books I have in weeks however my eyes cant take it anymore. Most nights I simply go to bed only because of my eyes.

Ill let you know when I get to that part and we can discuss it. I always enjoy that.

Ive got a few guess about the holy fuck of episode 10. Gotta involve Drago and Danny and fire and dragons and of course nudity and sex. (or Ill be disappointed :green: ) Ill let you know how close I was.

You're hitting on some of the keywords. I hope the scene comes across as compelling as it did in the book. Some of the scenes in the show are lackluster in comparison to the way they go down in the books, but only for budgetary reasons. This was a quote from one of my friends that sums it up in exaggeration:

"I agree. I've not liked how they've handled any of the major scenes (Dothraki wedding, Hand's Tourney, Robert's Hunt). Each of these seemed pitifully small. IIRC, Khal's wedding had 40,000+ in total attendance. I did not get that impression at all from the screen. At this rate the Battle of Blackwater is going to be two rowboats throwing firecrackers at each other."

(Blackwater will happen in season 2)

Not without converting them with third party software. That is the one major failure of the Kindle: not supporting a file format that seems to be the industry standard.

Well, Max, was I right or was I right?! They brought that scene out of the book perfectly.

:yup:

I really wasnt surprised by anything. Dragons were great!!! Just as Ive pictured them myself for the most part but great renditions. I want one. :green:

Danys hair didnt burn but her clothes did!!! Had to laugh at that (not that Im complaining). I havent read that far yet so dont know if the Dragons are imbued with anything but the life force from Drago, the Witch and the "Horse that would mount the world".

Master Pycelle is not what he seems. ;)

So much yet to go. Sorry we will have to wait a year but I have the books.

Of course her hair didn't burn, she is the blood of ancient Valyria. She is awakening ancient magicks that haven't existed in the world since before known history when her ancestors first found and tamed the dragons. Her clothes were just woven cloth, there was nothing protecting them.
