Please don't spoil it
I think we are on Season 6 now.
Very addictive.
It is almost in the Breaking Bad zone for me, plus it has occaisional boobies.

I don't need to spoil anything, it will spoil itself.

I suppose it could be... but I would think anybody who follows headlines would know how disappointed the fans were with the last season. Especially since it ended around the same time as Breaking Bad, so both shows were inevitably compared to each other.

YMMV of course, Tim. I hope it does!

I have seen about a 90/10 split between hate/love the ending.

I will carry on with my conversation with myself.

Deb is the main reason I hated that show towards the end. There's only so much of her shrill overreaction to every little thing that I can handle. It got to be where I just wanted to fast forward the show whenever her face came on the screen.

She's amazing in the other movie's she's been in, and she was awesome for most of Dexter. I don't know what happened at the end, they lost control of that character and it turned into something very unpleasant.

Dexter: Deb, I didn't have time to finish the dishes in the sink before I left.

Deb: Holy SHITFUCK, Dexter!! What in the fuck is that, like, four times now?! How the FUCK are we ever supposed to eat when every fucking inch of silverware is crusted with SHIT?! WHAT IS FUCKING WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?!

I completely agree that her funny freshness is getting old and tiresome. I don't expect it to get better.
She had some awesome zingers in the beginning but like everything Hollywood, if some is good, let's drown you in it.

Quinn is the most expertly developed character on the show, in my opinion.

Well we finished it.
I hear all the talk about season 8, but I really think it was an improvement over seasons 6-7.

That's not saying much, though.

What's your impression of the series overall?

Overall I am glad we watched it.
Without tracking what happened each season, I would say the first 3 seasons we couldn't wait to watch the next episode. Before long, it almost became a chore. My wife was ready to dump it but we pushed on.
Overall it was a fun series: witty characters, awesome location, cool boat etc.

I understand literature and tragedy etc, but I struggle to see why so many writers start with a good cast and then end up making them loath each other and think it is better.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. The early seasons were truly something new, unexplored territory, and the cast and crew was into it. Very compelling.

But for whatever reason it just couldn't haul the mail all the way to the end. It mired itself instead of soaring.
