I was reading about some of the seating too, and the fact that it's noteworthy at all seems strange to me.

The Colorado reps are going to all sit together, for example, regardless of political party.

Is it the first signs of an era where partisanship is frowned upon? Good lord I hope so. But like anything else our government does I expect it's nothing more than hollow posturing.

I never thought about it but I didnt previously know that the Supreme Court members arent allowed to/supposed to applaud or even show emotion. Maybe that is why Barry was so smug in criticizing them last year.

First time in years I didnt even bother to watch.

At least the Pelosi "Bobble Head" wasnt there to jump up every 2 seconds to cheerlead and applaud for her Messiah.
The cuts I have seen of it seemed lifeless. If he were an actor (wait........he is) he would have been accused of phoning it in. What happened to the GREAT ORATOR that was supposed to rival Reagan or even (shudder) Clinton? He doesnt even do well WITH a teleprompter now, never does well without one.

Only 42 million viewers also, lowest of his so far.

Funny how my Obama loving friends think his delivery, sans teleprompt, was excellent. And you guys think it was terrible. :teehee:

My misunderstanding then. I think the comment I saw referred to him not using it much, then.

I didn't watch. I'm not sure why it's necessary to go through the expense of a speech. For a long time, presidents delivered their report via letter to Congress. Can you imagine if a president tried to pull that off now?

I have mixed feelings on whether oratory ability is a good indicator of a politician's intellect, integrity, etc. Though, sheesh, G. W. was downright awful in his off-the-cuff remarks. :)

Now I just believe it more like a pep rally than a true State of the Onion. A media event.

BTW, I often said I thought Bush was a poor speaker and Clinton a good one so I am not just picking on Obama per se.

I didn't bother watching. And I could have since the Boss wasn't in the room and on the computer. Yeah, he turns the channel every time Obama is in the news or even a small clip! I'd say, "Hey wait! What was that going to be about??!" He says (without raising his voice), "Nothing. Believe me. Nothing." :lol2:
